Submitted by Dennis Fiscus.

Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal was among the 400 educational administrators, teachers and business and community leaders who joined over 1,850 students at the annual Arizona DECA Career Development Conference on March 4-6 at the Phoenix Civic Plaza and Hyatt Regency Hotel.

This year’s conference featured competitive events in 42 different areas of marketing, management, finance, hospitality and entrepreneurship. Students from 87 different high schools across the state competed for the opportunity to represent Arizona at the annual International DECA Conference where 15,000 students from all over North America, Germany and Guam will compete for $1,000,000 in academic scholarships, awards and cash prizes. In addition to competition, students had the opportunity to attend career development workshops in resume writing, job interviewing, dressing for success and goal setting by presenters from Men’s Warehouse, Grand Canyon University and Red Leadership Training. Arizona DECA also awarded over $20,000 in scholarships at the conference!
