Registration for this course will close October 16\, 2026. \nLevel 4 CTE Class\nPrerequisites: It is strongly recommended that you complete the following courses prior to enrollment:\n– Instructional Best Practices\n– Grading & Assessment\n– Lesson Plan Writing\n– Classroom Management or Foundations of Classroom Management\n– Rubrics\n– Serving Exceptional Students in CTE\nRecommended Timing: This course should be taken in your third year of teaching\, approximately six months prior to your deficiency deadline\nIntended Audience: This class is designed specifically for CTE Teachers who are required to take the Arizona Assessment of Professional Knowledge: Secondary (052)\nEnrollment Requirement: Instructor approval is required before enrollment. Interested participants must complete an enrollment form to ensure recommended prerequisites have been met.\nCourse Format: Asynchronous online course\nSession Dates: October 19 – September 30\, 2026\nParticipants are required to attend a Virtual Kick-Off Meeting on Monday\, October 19\, from 4-4:30 pm \nThis asynchronous online class provides an overview of the standard material covered on the NES (formerly AEPA) Professional Knowledge Assessment (Secondary). Participants will engage in activities addressing student development and learning\, assessment\, instruction\, the learning environment\, and the professional environment. CTE students with strong reading and terminology skills are able to make connections to new content quicker\, perform better on certifications and assessments\, and engage more readily in professional communication in industry. \nThis course is designed to equip teachers to use their program instructional terminology along with high-yield vocabulary practices to plan and teach in both the class and hands-on settings. Whereas technical reading and performance-based literacy focus on standards for reading\, writing\, listening\, and speaking\, this course takes a deeper look at using effective reading and terminology strategies. \nUpon successful completion of the course\, which includes submission of homework\, participants will receive an ADE certificate for 15 professional development clock hours\, which equates to one (1) semester hour of coursework.

If done correctly\, every student can successfully perform the new skill with little or no frustration\, without wasted materials\, and attain proficiency in a way that will ensure the whole class progresses at an appropriate pace. This is a real career extender! When you are successful in the lab and the students are successful in the lab\, teaching can be very rewarding. An added bonus is that students complete the new skill in a safe environment. If wanting to register after the deadline\, please email PD@west-mec.org \nLevel 4\nThis class is designed for teachers in at least their 2nd year\nOption B approved course \nThis highly engaging course will provide you with an opportunity to evaluate the purpose of formative assessments. Topics include the role and types of assessments\, the process to develop an objective assessment\, as well as criteria for crafting quality multiple-choice items. You will learn the skills needed to create objective assessment items using a process that mirrors the development of items for the Arizona CTE Technical Skill Assessments. You will develop an understanding of how to assess student skills in relation to standards and Bloom’s Taxonomy levels that require the application of concepts and critical thinking.
