SUMMARY:Grading and Assessment
DESCRIPTION:How should students in CTE be assessed? How do we set up a fair grading system for both teachers and students?  This course is designed to look at the wide variety of options that address both of these questions so that you can establish your own philosophy for grading\, and identify fair and appropriate methods to assess student learning and progress in your program. Participants will engage with a variety of formative and summative assessment techniques and create a performance rubric aligned to program standards. \n\nInstructor:  Curt Bertelsen\nFor: All CTE Teachers\nADE Credit Available:  Yes\nOne Semester Hour (SH) Credit\nSatisfies Professional Knowledge\n(PK) deficiencies\n\n\nCourse Length: 1 day + homework\n\n\nSpring 2021\n\n\n\n\nDates:\nFebruary 5\, 2021\n(One-day + homework)\n\n\n\n\nSummer 2021\n\n\n\n\nDates:\nJune 4\, 2021\n(One-day + homework)\n\n\n\nTime: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. each day with a 30-minute lunch

SUMMARY:Classroom Management
DESCRIPTION:This class will be 4 two-hour sessions held on Zoom.  You must attend all 4 sessions to complete this class. \nIn this course\, teachers will enhance classroom management skills by developing rules\, procedures\, and routines that are aligned to their content and environment. We will consider the philosophy of “Discipline with Dignity” to ensure that you possess discipline strategies that are highly effective without escalating disruptive student behavior. \nParticipants will evaluate how a course syllabus serves as a powerful communication tool between teacher and students and leave with a draft that defines your procedures\, routines\, classroom rules\, and consequences. \nNOTE:  There is homework associated with this class if you wish to earn (1) ADE Credit.  Participants who participate in the course and who complete one follow-up assignment will have the opportunity to earn 15 CEU hours approved by ADE to be used for moving from provisional to standard CTE certificate or for re-certification hours.

SUMMARY:Technical Reading & Performance Literacy
DESCRIPTION:Assessing and grading are two different actions. Learn a variety of formative and summative assessment techniques. A major focus is how to assess student work using rubrics. This class will help you create a clear grading policy and develop a variety of ways to assess student learning. \nHow should students in CTE be assessed? How do we set up a fair grading system for both teachers and students? Learn about the wide variety of options that address both of these issues to help you develop both your own philosophy for grading as well as effective strategies for multiple ways to assess student learning and progress. You will also leave with a greater understanding of how to align testing and evaluation to your course outcomes and grading policies that will increase effective feedback for students. \nParticipants who participate in the course and who complete the follow-up assignments will have the opportunity to earn 15 CEU hours approved by ADE to be used for moving from provisional to standard CTE certificate or for recertification hours.

SUMMARY:Using Rubrics to Increase Student Success
DESCRIPTION:CTE courses are performance-based.  When teachers let students know exactly how their work will be evaluated\, the students’ level of performance always improves. Come and participate in a hands-on activity that uses a rubric\, determine where the rubric made a positive difference in your performance\, and then design a rubric for one of your own student projects with guided support and feedback. Bring the assignment for one of your student projects and your current grading criteria for that project with you to help get this practical day started. \n\nInstructor:  Cathy Carey\nFor: All CTE Teachers\nADE Credit Available:  Yes\nOne Semester Hour (SH) Credit\nSatisfies Professional Knowledge\n(PK) deficiencies\n\n\nCourse Length: 1 day + homework\n\n\nSpring 2021\n\n\n\n\nDates:\nFebruary 16\, 2021\n(One-day + homework)\n\n\n\n\nSummer 2021\n\n\n\n\nDates:\nSaturday\, May 1\, 2021\n(One-day + homework)\n\n\n\nTime: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. each day with a 30-minute lunch

SUMMARY:Performance Literacy
DESCRIPTION:Performance Literacy is the partner class for Technical Reading.  This second course allows teachers to gain a deeper understanding of writing and speaking standards\, identify how they currently use them in their programs\, and determine specific steps they can take to increase their use of these standards as well as their students’ success with them. \nThe technical literacy standards are skill-driven and a perfect fit for our CTE programs’ focus on career AND college readiness as our students complete their programs. \nPrerequisite: Completion of Technical Reading course to receive (1) ADE Credit.
